SACRAMENTO - Senator Ling Ling Chang (R-Diamond Bar) provided the following statement on Governor Gavin Newsom’s 2019-20 budget proposal:
“The Governor’s first budget is certainly ambitious in its size and scope and I’m prepared to work with the administration on helping those Californians most in need. Our challenge will be making sure existing priorities like schools do not suffer as a result – especially if the economy takes a turn for the worst.
"California annually ranks as one of the worst states for its commitment to education funding. Will we focus on fully funding our schools consistently or fund new programs instead? Is it better to do more insufficiently, or to ensure our priorities are done well?
"Last year, the state came close to denying support to victims of human trafficking and I fought to reinstate those funds. It would be a shame if we are later forced to defund some of the most vulnerable populations in California simply because Sacramento politicians failed to control their impulse to fund everything under the sun.”
