SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Ling Ling Chang (R-Diamond Bar) issued the following statement in response to the governor’s Employment Development Department (EDD) Strike Team report:
“We need an immediate Senate oversight hearing. In what world is refusing new applications and shutting down the EDD for two weeks the solution to helping the 1.5 million Californians who have yet to receive assistance? EDD leadership needs to come before the Senate and answer some very serious questions.
“EDD’s numerous shortcomings are not a surprise. Since April, I’ve called for two audits, provided detailed recommendations on how to fix EDD issues, identified tech failures, and repeatedly demanded action. Too many people are struggling to survive. Oversight, reforms, and accountability couldn’t come sooner.”
