Outdoor Playgrounds Are Open
All outdoor playgrounds across California can now reopen regardless of tier status. However‚ the choice to move forward is up to local jurisdiction and there are a few rules involved such as no eating or drinking and children must be supervised. A bill I coauthored that tightens California law to assist law enforcement in prosecuting instances of price gouging was signed into law. You can learn more about how SB 1196 closes a loophole criminals used here.
Protecting Domestic Violence Survivors
The governor signed SB 1141‚ expanding the definition of domestic violence in the law to include threatening force or intimidation‚ depravation of basic needs‚ and coercive control. Unfortunately‚ we’ve seen horrifying spikes in domestic violence during this pandemic‚ and I’m grateful this legislation I coauthored will provide much needed legal tools for survivors.
Mental Health Bills Signed
Mental health bills SB 803‚ SB 855‚ AB 2112‚ and AB 2265 were signed into law. With COVID-19 increasing the need for mental health services‚ it’s more important than ever to help Californians access care and these bills will do just that. I’m especially thankful the governor signed a bill I coauthored‚ establishing an Office of Suicide Prevention.
My colleagues and I sent a bipartisan letter to Governor Newsom‚ requesting him to consider the immediate reopening of California’s theme parks and provide the theme park industry with clear guidance to ensure the safety and health of everyone involved.
As you may have heard‚ Disney plans to lay off 28‚000 employees as COVID-19 affects its theme park businesses. California is home to the Disney family and the loss of even more jobs not only hurts the families of those employees‚ but is another hit to our state’s economy. If you are affected by the layoffs‚ please don’t hesitate to reach out for assistance. We’re here to help.
