Wednesday, May 27, 2020

Dear Friend,

Signaling a move into Phase 3, here’s a quick update on where California is on reopening and resources available to you and your family.

Barber Shops and Hair Salons

Under these guidelines, hair salons and barber shops in most counties are allowed to reopen. I’m hopeful the Governor is reviewing my call to work with the nail industry to reopen in a safe and sensible manner.

DMV Extends Expiring Drivers Licenses

Licenses for drivers 70 and older that expire in June or July are extended 120 days and licenses expiring for drivers 69 and younger are now valid through July. The extensions are automatically provided to eligible drivers. Click here for additional details.

Do you have education questions for K-12 or high education? Please email your questions to and join us for a Telephone Town Hall on Wednesday, June 3 from 7pm-8pm. RSVP here.

Employment Development Department (EDD)

EDD has begun recalculating benefits for qualified PUA claims and you may see a change in your weekly benefit amount. The federal stimulus payment adds an extra $600 per week for eligible UI and PUA claimants who were unemployed form March 29, 2020 to July 25, 2020. Any increase will be paid retroactively.

Pandemic EBT (P-EBT)

Because schools are closed due to COVID-19, families with children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals can now apply to receive up to $365 in food benefits. If you are eligible and have not received your P-EBT card, apply here before June 30, 2020.

Places of Worship

Under the new guidelines, churches, mosques, synagogues and other places of worship will be allowed to welcome only 25% of their total capacity - or a maximum of 100 attendees, whichever is lower - to services, including funerals. Please click here to view the guidelines.

I will keep working to ensure the people of my district are represented in Sacramento, and I’d love to hear from you. Please email me at or call 714-671-9474.
